A toxic marriage between Vic and Melinda in the movie Deep Water is an awe for me personally. I have never heard the movie or read the synopsis beforehand. I intended to watch it because I thought it was released in 2022. Moreover, a curiosity of the newest Ben Affleck’s movie. That is all!

For my taste, I would give it 90 out of 100 for its natural story represented by the emotion of the two main actors, Affleck and Ana de Armas. Oh God, she is a goddess!

Who I am talking this bullshit to review what I have in mind about the movie? Well, I am not good with words but I think I can be honest about the movie. In fact, after having watched it, I had lots of thought to write; to let people know that it is remarkable.

The movie was directed by Adrian Lyne adapted from the similar popular novel by Patricia Highsmith. It is a psychological-thriller genre about toxic marriage which leads to murder of the wife’s lover. For some reasons, I found that Vic wouldn’t care if she had an affair, pretending to be tough and let his wife take her own choice without any means to control. He thought that he was open minded so that their marriage could last. However, it turned out that he couldn’t take it all. Instead of showing of his jealousy, he acted by instinct. He killed all of her sexual friends - or lovers.

The deep emotion that Affleck manifested in the role of Vic Van Allen greatly displayed sorrow, unbearable bitterness, exhaustion, and overflow of helplessness. This immensely intimidated how I feel about him; like I was him all along. Some voices antagonized me to do thing if I were in his position. How I would not be calm about other so-called male friends touching your wife and kissed her non-casually – a rather sexually. How your wife seduced them in your own house and tended to feel that it was fine. It was crazy!

In one scene where Mel came home drunk and Vic asked where she went the night before, she asked if he was jealous. She was curious if he had emotion to explode. But she didn’t get what she wanted. Instead, he told her that he didn’t want to be the spouse to control. Let it be her choice. This could be that he didn’t want to take charge since he didn’t want to lose her or the marriage with a daughter.

All about the murders reflected how the extreme struggle he had about his marriage and I was sorry about him. Most people would get divorce and move on with their life; Vic didn’t.

As in the previous idea, I think the most powerful mean in this movie is the power of Affleck and Armas in portraying the less explosive emotion by words, yet but facial expression and the after-effect action. In addition, the plot is easily flows without any extra power to set off.  It’s like watching Gone Girl without having too much twist. Yap, this could be the drawback but, as my view, I believe this is an advantage as well. Sometimes, you needn’t the complicated issue to watch, am I correct?

If you have spare time to watch this movie, make sure you grab your soda and have something to hold. Well, I mean I was annoyed much therefore I need something to pinch. LOL!

Have a great day, buddy! Let me know your thought after having watched the movie!
